The bald eagle is a large, powerful bird with a white head and tail, and dark brown feathers on its body and wings. It has a sharp yellow beak and strong claws, which it uses to catch fish from lakes and rivers. Bald eagles are amazing fliers and can glide high in the sky for a long time without flapping their wings much. They build huge nests in tall trees, and they usually return to the same one every year. One of the coolest things about bald eagles is their super sharp eyesight they can spot a fish from way up in the air!
Bald eagles live in the wild near lakes, rivers, and coasts where there are a lot of fish to eat.
The bald eagle isn’t endangered anymore, it was taken off the endangered species list in 2007 because it made a big comeback. Years ago, it was in trouble from people cutting down trees, hunting, and using a chemical called DDT that made eagle eggs too weak. But people worked hard to protect the eagles, and now they’re flying strong and free again across the country.
I like the bald eagle cause of its ability to see from very far away. Another reason I like the bald eagle is cause of its ability to fly at very fast speeds across the sky and because its like the symbol of strenght and freedom in the US.
